We’re all currently in the same boat, and that boat is docked within the confines of our homes (and, if you’re not, you should be). Naturally, we’re looking for ways to be entertained, and in the current world of streaming, that entertainment isn’t too hard to come by. So, I’m here today to think as far outside of the box as possible, and bring to you a list of binge-worthy shows that will help your social-distancing woes.
- The West Wing – I’ve been saying for the last few weeks that if anyone could get us out of this crisis, it’s Jed Bartlet. Unfortunately, he is fictional, and only exists within the world of this incredibly-written drama. With well-developed characters (performed by an outstanding cast) and edge-of-your-seat story lines, you’ll speed through this series in the blink of an eye. And, when you’re all done and feeling sad it’s over, check out the fun and insightful podcast, The West Wing Weekly. As of this article’s publication, The West Wing is streaming on Netflix; however, it will be moving to HBO Max in the not-so-distant future.
- Schitt’s Creek – You already knew this one was coming. Over the last two years, Schitt’s Creek has become my favorite show of all-time. The writing, the characters, and the positive tone of the show make for something that will leave you feeling like the Grinch when his heart grows three-times bigger. The first five seasons are on Netflix, with the sixth and final season currently airing every Tuesday on POP! TV. The series will come to a close on April 7th, and I am not emotionally prepared for this. When you finish watching, we can cry together and color in our Schitt’s Creek coloring books.
- Curb Your Enthusiasm – If you’re looking for a show that will make you glad that social distancing is currently a thing, then Curb is the show for you. Mostly improvised by a hilarious cast, the show follows Seinfeld co-creator (and the inspiration for George Costanza), Larry David, through the trials and tribulations of being an over-thinking human. While it’s not a reality show, it’s safe to say that it’s pretty darn close to David’s real life. Curb streams on HBO Now and HULU.
- Party Down – If you’re a fan of Arrested Development or The Office-style humor, you’ll love Party Down. The series follows a catering team in Hollywood, and each episode features a different event that’s being catered. With hilarious comedic-timing, amazing cameos, and a stellar cast, you’ll be asking yourself, “What took me so long to watch this?” Party Down streams on HULU.
We reached out to The Tidbit’s loyal followers and asked for their suggestions on the topic. Suggestions include: Breaking Bad, Mind Hunter, Ozark, Bojack Horseman, You (all on Netflix); The Handmaid’s Tale (which captures the weird feel of the world right now; streams), 11.22.63, Fargo, Justified (all on HULU); Succession, Sharp Objects, True Detective, and Barry (all on HBO).
