The Tidbit Reviews the Fuel Behind “Huel”

The start of a New Year always inspires the motivation to “get fit!” I felt this more this year than I ever have before, not so much for the purpose of weight loss, but for the purpose of feeling healthy – both mentally and physically.

I started taking yoga, eating healthier, and meal planning. When discussing this with a friend, he mentioned the product Huel and asked if I’d heard anything about that. He explained it as a shake-able, drinkable meal, which sounded super convenient and therefore sparked my interest.

I looked into the product and saw what my friend had described. A powder full of nutrients that you can mix in a shaker-bottle with water and it’s a complete meal. These come in a variety of flavors and the website explains exactly how to use it.

This was all well and good, but I had to find out for myself what this was all about. Mainly my curiosity was found in the question of, “how long will it keep you full?”

So, I reached out to Huel and explained that I was interested in trying this and documenting it in a review for Tidbit readers. They kindly sent me a bag of chocolate and a shaker bottle to give it a try.

I first tried it as the recipe given on the back of the bag: water, ice cubes, and two scoops of Huel in the shaker bottle. I drank this for breakfast and was full for about 4 hours which was perfect for between breakfast and lunch.

I then wanted to try Huel as a part of other recipes, all of which were filling and delicious.

Oatmeal Banana Huel Cakes
*half a cup of uncooked oatmeal
*one peeled banana
*3.5 tablespoons of milk of choice
*one scoop of Huel

Blend all of the ingredients together with mixer or Magic Bullet and cook in a greased pan over stove top, the same way you’d make regular pancakes. This recipe makes about three small pancakes (delicious all on their own, which is a lot coming from someone who loves syrup).

Oatmeal Banana M&M Huel Cookies
*half a cup of uncooked oatmeal
*one peeled banana
*half handful of M&Ms
*one scoop of Huel

Mix all ingredients in a bowl with a fork. Create balls of dough and place on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
