The Tidbit Meets Me in St. Louis

A few months back, my best friend, Haley, made the move from Bloomington, IL to St. Louis, MO. Naturally, I had to make it a point to go and visit her. I’d been to St. Louis once before for my friend, Aliyah’s, birthday, but was only there for less than 24 hours.

This time it would be for a whole weekend, and I cruised all the way to STL without any co-pilots, so I had to rely on the podcast app to keep me entertained. Luckily, Dax Shepard took his comedic brilliance to iTunes and his podcast, Armchair Expert, kept me company during the entire four-hour drive. (Seriously, if you haven’t already, listen to this. It’s so genuine and hilarious. Thanks for the tip, Meg!).

Finally, I got to my destination and caught up with Haley. She showed me around town and pointed out all of the hot spots (the zoo, the Gateway Arch, etc.) We grabbed dinner and planned our first full day.

On Friday, we went downtown and walked past the Arch. My concern of motion sickness, in conjunction with heights, kept us from going to the top. So, we did the next best thing and simply walked up and touched the Arch. After this, we went to lunch near the zoo at this great spot called The Boathouse. It sits right on a little body of water where you can rent paddle boats and the like. A very serene scene for a nice meal.

On Saturday, we had metal brunch at the Crow’s Nest and spent a great deal of time shopping at The Record Exchange. That night, we went to an old movie theater inside of The Chase Park Plaza. We saw A Simple Favor with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. It was entertaining, but don’t even get me started on the false advertising they used in promoting that movie. Not at all what was expected.

Anyway, with both Haley and I being coffee hounds, made a few trips to local coffee shops in the area, including Comet Coffee (amazing chocolate chip cookies) and Kayak Coffee (delicious smoothies). We also stopped by the fairly unknown Starbucks.

It was a lovely weekend, and I’m excited to visit the city again when I go for a bachelorette party next year.

Until next time,
